But shortage of testosterone is not only a mood killer or an aesthetic
concern. Too little T could cost you your life – a 2013 study from Ghent
University Hospital in Belgium shows that low testosterone levels are
linked to a greater risk of cardiovascular disease. Follow these simple
tips to boost your testosterone levels before they become a heart, and
health, risk.

Power Posing for Higher Testosterone

It’s obvious that sitting with your arms crossed and legs folded makes
people think you are nervous with something to hide.

And if your arms are open, your legs are spread and you stand straight,
people are more likely to take you seriously.

But did you know that standing a certain way can actually cause your
testosterone levels to rise?

This is the conclusion from 2012 research undertaken by scientists at
Harvard University. “Power posing” alters your body chemistry and
your hormonal balance.

High-power poses are stances where you are opened up – your legs
are open, your arms are out, you have your hands on your hips or
behind your head, and you are generally making yourself as large and
noticeable as possible.

Standing or sitting in these power poses for just a few minutes,
according to researchers, results in an average of 20 percent more
testosterone in the blood.

Low-power poses, on the other hand, are those where you cross your
legs and arms, hunch your body, and look downwards. These postures
result in a 10 percent drop in testosterone after a few minutes.

1. Win, and Keep Winning, to Increase Testosterone

Men with higher testosterone levels in the morning had a better, more
profitable day’s trading on the stock market, according to 2008
research from the University of Cambridge, UK.

This is not necessarily surprising, but what is startling is the discovery
that testosterone levels kept on rising even after the traders “won” on
the markets.

The rise of testosterone after a win is linked to evolutionary factors
where the winners of a challenge must go on to surmount other
problems immediately after the success. But it is not clear why it
remains an ongoing issue in today’s financial districts.

While the study focused on trading stocks, you can start to trigger that
"winning" feeling but playing games that you know how to do well.  
Get out the game console, the basketball, the pool cube --whatever it
is, make sure you play a game that you do well enough to win
consistently. That winning feeling breeds confidence, when starts the
testosterone cascade. It's a positive feedback loop --- winning boosts
testosterone, testosterone rises even more after you win, and therefore
you win more.

2. Compete, but not with your Friends, For Higher Testosterone

Scientists recently discovered that male testosterone levels increase
when men win in a competition against their rivals, but not their friends.

A 2013 study from the University of Missouri-Columbia found that rise
in testosterone levels are moderated depending on whether the
competition is friendly or fueled by bitter rivalry. Your testosterone
levels are set to rise when you beat a foe, but not when you are
competing against your buddies.

3. Watch Your Team Win to Increase Testosterone Levels

You don’t have to compete to benefit from a rise in testosterone levels
when your team is successful.

Men who watch their favorite sports team play and win experience a
percent rise in testosterone
, according to 1998 research from the
University of Utah.

Follow a successful team and you should be fine but beware if you
support the underdogs – testosterone levels fell by 20 percent in men
whose teams lost.

4. Non-Competitive Activities Can Also Cause Testosterone to Rise

Apparently, non-competitive, strenuous activities that benefit the group
or community result in greater rises in testosterone than directly
competitive activities like soccer, according to a 2013 study into
forager-farmers in central Bolivia by researchers at UC Santa Barbara.

Scientists tested the hormone levels of farmers before and after they
chopped down trees for food production and found a 46.8 percent
increase in testosterone after the work. This spike in testosterone
allows men to take in more blood sugar to enhance muscles and
improve performance.

5. Lift Weights and Watch Your Testosterone Levels Rise

Exercise is good for your body, mind, and testosterone levels but there

A 2011 study from Northwestern University shows that as soon as a
man has a child, his testosterone levels fall. The researchers looked at
624 men who were not fathers, and followed them as they started

The men with the highest testosterone levels were more likely to have a
baby but were also most likely to experience a dramatic drop in
testosterone when the baby arrived.

The biggest drop occurred when the newborn baby came home,
according to the researchers. The theory is that the male biology
changes to be able to meet the demands of caring for a baby and
supporting a family.
